TurboTax workflow for 2025

Importing Polymarket Form 8949 Data into TurboTax

Follow this proven process to bring your PolyTax exports into TurboTax Desktop. Avoid transcription errors, attach the right PDFs, and reconcile Schedule D totals in minutes.

What you need before you start

  • PolyTax CSV export separated by short-term and long-term trades.
  • PolyTax PDF summary of Form 8949 (attach during e-file).
  • TurboTax Desktop Premier or Home & Business (2024 or 2025 edition).
  • Your wallet addresses and cost basis notes for audit documentation.

Step-by-step import walkthrough

  1. Open TurboTax Desktop and choose the tax year you are filing (2024 return due April 15, 2025).
  2. Navigate to Federal Taxes → Wages & Income → Investment Income and click Start next to Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
  3. Select “I’ll type it in myself,” then choose the CSV import option when TurboTax offers to add multiple trades simultaneously.
  4. Upload the short-term CSV from PolyTax first. Map each column to TurboTax’s fields. Repeat for the long-term CSV if you have qualifying positions.
  5. Review the imported trades. TurboTax shows a consolidated summary—make sure the total proceeds, cost basis, and net gain match the PolyTax summary.
  6. If TurboTax prompts for a PDF attachment, upload the PolyTax Form 8949 PDF. This prevents the IRS from requesting mailed copies after e-filing.
  7. Continue to Schedule D. Confirm the short-term totals appear in Part I and long-term totals in Part II. Adjust for rounding differences inside TurboTax’s worksheet if necessary.

Avoid these common pitfalls

  • Mixing short-term and long-term trades in one CSV import. Keep them separate so Schedule D is accurate.
  • Forgetting to attach the supporting PDF when e-filing. The IRS can reject returns missing Form 8949 detail.
  • Overwriting cost basis during mapping. Always use the PolyTax-generated basis to avoid under-reporting gains.
